Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Rufus Castle and Portland Museum

It was one of those will it or won't it days, where the sun looked as if it was going to be with us for the afternoon, but sadly those few rays of sunlight lasted just a few minutes leaving a pretty raw day to be honest.

A couple of good highlights in Penns Wood, where the female Great Spotted Woodpecker has made a return and there was also a Redwing feeding on insects in the Ivy, 20ft up one of the Sycamores.

Here a few images and videos from today:

The trees might be bare, but there was a fair bit of activity in amongst them, with Blue Tits, Great Tits, Long-tailed Tits, Chaffinches, a few Robins, Wrens and.............................

........................this female Great Spotted Woodpecker.

It's quite possible that this is the same female Great Spotted Woodpecker seen on a few occasions here late last year

Just before 2020 finished I came across a lone Redwing in the Pennsylvania Castle Grounds. And now there is one in the woods. This individual was pretty busy flying up into the Ivy, high up a Sycamore tree and grabbing insects/berries, before....................

..................flying off to a branch to consume whatever it was it found. Whatever it was doing it did this numerous times before flying further up the wood.

Always full of energy Ted on the steps below Rufus Castle, when the sun came out all to briefly.

Birds Recorded: Cormorant, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Wood Pigeon, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Wagtail, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, 1 Redwing, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch
